Improving Inclusion of People with Disabilities Into Mainstream Living

Mohammed Yousuf

The basics of everyday life are still out of reach for too many people with disabilities in the world: getting a job, using transportation, getting an education, and living independently. The problem is made more complex by the fact that, for the most part, disabled persons are also usually extremely poor and vulnerable.

The hundreds of millions of people with disabilities can be brought back into the mainstream society if we collectively work to improve their inclusion. While examining these issues in greater details, a holistic approach will be discussed and a set of recommendations will be provided to counter this growing metaphor.
