Mohammed Yousuf

Mr. Mohammed Yousuf acquired polio at the age of 2 and could not go to school until he was almost 12 years old. He walks with the help of leg braces and crutches. He tried to find solutions from many challenges and did not let obstacles get in the way of progressive thinking and attaining independence. He came to USA in 1990 and associated himself with a number of disability related initiatives. He is the President and Founder of EquallyAble Foundation (Formerly HelpHandicap Foundation, USA), a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the inclusion and empowerment of people with disabilities. He is also a disability activist and has worked on a number of initiatives to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities. He received his bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Osmania University, India in 1988, a master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the Wayne State University, USA in 1992, Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) certification from Housing University in 2006, Universal Design, Fair Housing & ADA/ABA Guidelines from Harvard University in 2007 and Assistive Technology Applications from California State University in 2008. Mohammed has published several articles on disability related topics; contributed a book chapter for a book on disability and is currently working on his own book on disability.
